Artist Russell, George
Album The Outer View
Label Riverside
Year 1962

Pianist/composer George Russell was one of jazz's more forward-thinking, unpredictable talents. On this album, he plays in a fairly straight-ahead bop mode, albeit with an off-kilter, free-wheeling sensibility. It's all real good, but the highlight is his lazy, often-haunting version of "You Are My Sunshine," which features the first recorded appearance of Sheila Jordan. Don Ellis ably leads the charge on trumpet, as well.
